Picture of the week 5-28-19

I am starting up the picture of the week again, now that we are active on the farm.  This week's picture took place after we tested our dog Zelda to see if she would come when she was called.  Unlike our last dog, she comes every time.  Sadly we think it is because we were her third family that owed her when she was only five months old.  So we let her run wild, while we are doing construction out there.  After about five hours of running and exploring, she fell asleep in the passenger seat of my jeep. Why is there a Pringle container by her? She decided that even though it had been washed out to remove the salt, that she only wanted water and treats out of that container   Even though she has a stainless steel dog bowl on the property. No matter how little money you have and how few possessions you own, having a dog makes you rich.  - Louis Sabin

We have finally started building our fence.

My accident back in March, kinda changed a lot of our plans.  We still made the move to Arizona because the cost of living is much better here than in Texas.  We had every intention of staying out at the farm. But having to drive an hour an a half for my physical therapy multiple times a week just started to get too time consuming and too pricey on gas.  So we are staying in an RV park in Springerville.  I got a job at the local hardware store Davis Ace Hardware.  The owner is an amazing lady that has been extremely understanding with my appointments and schedules me enough time off for them every week.  As of this last week my doctor decided I could go down to one visit a week. Will left a couple of weeks ago to chase hail.  I have been spending my free time building on the farm.  First project was creating a gate. First I gathered my supplies that I would need.  Not a whole lot needed.  It’s a little crud.  My ne...

We are moving to the farm for good.

A lot has been going on lately.  But I should start a month back until now.  Last month during that freak snow storm that hit the southwest, that is when we moved the farm truck from Texas to Arizona.  Of course whenever you plan time off work, the weather will be terrible.  This was the road in front of the farm. It's hard to figure out the scale of this property.   A lot of what looks like bushes are actually fully grown Pinion pine and Alligator Juniper trees. For scale that's our F150 truck next to a tree. We had a lot of chores planned to accomplish this weekend to make our move easier.  But other than leaving the truck, the only thing we did was designate our future driveway.  We have our 911 address set up.  So encase of an emergency, gps should be able to get emergency personnel to our farm.   We can't get mail delivered here.  That isn't a big deal, there were places in San Antonio ...

Merry Christmas Everyone!

This festive season is so much more than Christmas parties and gift giving.  Try to be thankful for even the smallest blessings.  We hope your Christmas is filled with the true miracles and meaning of this beautiful time.   We hope you have even more blessings in the new year!

I must be a dummy because this book fit me just fine.

So, beeing (see what I did there? If you don't like that, you should probably stop reading now.) that we are starting a farm relatively soon, and said farm is going to have honeybees  on it, I thought it might be a good idea to start reading up on beekeeping. I went online and bought a few highly recommended books and started reading.  The first one that I read is from many people's go-to informational book menagerie, the dummy series.      Beekeeping for dummies actually comes very highly recommended by many experienced beekeepers.  They all agree it's very informative and a great reference for both newbees and experienced beekeepers. It's written by Howland Blackiston, a former president of the Backyard Beekeepers Association and an international lecturer on bees and beekeeping. Part 1      As any book having to do with caring for any living beeing should, it starts out helping you make the important d...

It's officially the Christmas Season!

Image
So many stores seem to have started decorating weeks before Halloween this year.  Fall is my favorite season.  So I don't like to start decorating until the day after Thanksgiving.  So I say a fond farewell to Fall, cause it's officially the Christmas season! Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold everything is softer and more beautiful.  - Norman Vincent Peale
